Friday: The Current Birthday Party, Night 1: Tapes N Tapes, Dead Man Winter, Low, Night Moves Last night, 89.3 the Current celebrated its seventh year on the air with the first of two nights of two sold-out shows on the First Avenue Mainroom stage. To truly appreciate this landmark, some context is needed. Outside of Minneapolis, good radio stations on the FM dial a rarity. The Current is the only public radio-funded "alternative" music station in the country, and although there are some gems on the airwaves (Radio K, KFAI), the Current is a force to be reckoned with, with a greater reach and audience, exposing its listeners to music they wouldn't have known about otherwise. The Vita MN website apathy Does anyone use or interact with the Vita MN website other than the Vita MN staff, editors, paid contributors, and employees??? It seem to me that there are very few people that actively engage at the Vita MN site. Who the hell is it for? How much does it cost the Star Tribune to run this site? Is it worth it? [...] |
