Bar & restaurant deals 5/3: Cheapo de Mayo
MICHAEL RIETMULDER | Updated 8/17/2012
Americans love piggy-backing on other countries' holidays for an excused to get soused. So, with St. Paddy's Day in our rearview, we turn our attention to Cinco de Mayo this Saturday. The beer won't be green, but we found some colorful specials to get you through a weekend of tacos and tequila.
Bar Abilene
To get a jump on the festivities, the Uptown Tex-Mex joint is throwing a Friday fiesta from 5-9 p.m. with a taco-eating contest and a mariachi band. Show up for the 4-7 p.m. happy hour, and your margaritas, taps, rails and house wines are all two-for-one. Plus, take $2 off everything on the food menu, including the famous mashed-at-the-table guacamole.
Pancho Villa
Cinco de Mayo is a weekend-long celebration here. The Eat Street Mexican haunt is hosting some daytime activities for the kiddies, but we recommend a Saturday-night stop to watch the Mayweather-Cotto fight (8 p.m.) on pay-per-view. Regardless of when you time your trip, Pancho Villa is slinging $4 margaritas all weekend long.
Lyndale Tap House
While you probably won't find the Most Interesting Man in the World kicking it at this Lyn-Lake bro bar, we're quite sure he'd approve of this Saturday's deals. Nearly all day (save for 4-7 p.m.) bartenders will peddle pints of Dos Equis for just $3. If that doesn't burst your piñata, the Tap House will feature discounts on Corona, rail tequila and pit tacos.
