BENJAMIN CARTER GRIMES
Age: 24. Lives in: Uptown. Occupation: Freelance photographer, DJ, camera store clerk.
Q: You're a regular guest DJ at Too Much Love. Why do you think that it's had so much staying power?
A: Peter Lansky (aka Soviet Panda) plays great music. Unlike most large venues, First Avenue gives Peter full charge over programming for the party, and he continues to care about bringing people new and relevant music.
Q: Who is the most underrated DJ in town?
A: Zak Khutoretsky (DVS1). I had a chance to see him in Berlin, and I think the 1,500 people losing their minds on the floor for his five-hour set would be pretty surprised that he doesn't have the same draw here.
Q: What's the most memorable warehouse party you went to in the past year?
A: Probably the final 1419 party. It was incredibly loud, late, dark and dirty.
Q: What's it like being behind the lens vs. being onstage?
A: I normally don't really hear that much when I'm photographing a performance -- I'm focusing on the visual aspect.
Q: You're known to rock a pretty mean mustache. What's the key to pulling it off?
A: Keep it clean, go buy a double-edge razor, a pack of Japanese feather blades and a badger-hair shaving brush. Also, get used to getting compliments from a lot of drunk college bros.
