The formidable franchise's newest installment likely has the same effects as the last.

While it wasn't screened for review, this series' faux-documentary formula is tested and true. A suburban family, whose home is heavily equipped with nanny-cams, will be assaulted by occult spirits. It's a safe wager that this go-round features: A) a long, static shot of a door slowly shutting by itself; B) a sleeper dragged from bed by invisible forces; C) lights switching off and on without human intervention; and D) plenty of ominous sound effects. Will the new film increase the franchise's formidable popularity, or has the point of diminishing returns been reached? (Rated R.)
