Vikings-Packers playoff subplot: sausage vs. cheese

Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt placed a wager on Saturday's game.

The NFL punditry has made much of the Green Bay Packers' aerial fireworks going against the Vikings' fierce rushing attack heading into Saturday's wild-card playoff game at Lambeau Field.

There's also the matter of Minnesota-made sausages vs. Wisconsin cheese.

That's what at stake in a bet between Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak - who's risking sausages from Butcher and the Boar (our Restaurant of the Year) - and Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt, who's putting BelGioioso cheese on the line, along with Sno-cap Root Beer from Titletown Brewing Co. and Beernsten’s Candies.

Here's Rybak in a press release:

"Three hundred and sixty-two days a year, I represent a city near the border with many wonderful people from Wisconsin. Saturday night, however, my blood will run purple and Viking horns will spear the Cheeseheads. I’m looking forward to giving new meaning to ‘Skol, Vikings!’ with a good chug of Green Bay root beer and a side of Green Bay cheese."

Hopefully the genial nature of the mayoral wager carries over to the respective fanbases. We wouldn't want a repeat of last year, when a man in a purple sombrero was arrested in a brawl outside of Lambeau following a Vikings-Packers game.

Because who wants to perpetuate the myth that Midwest football fans are drinkers?
