Minneapolis stylist Alice Sydow recently stopped at the famed Women’s Clothing Exchange in St. Louis to search for a Grammy red-carpet dress for Twin Cities model and musician Tearra. Her visit was filmed for the second episode of the new Rachel Zoe-produced series “Resale Royalty” — which will air 8 p.m. Sunday on the Style Network.
Sydow, a St. Louis native, said the taping was true to her personality: “I’m looking out for my client, so if I don’t like something that’s being brought out, I’m just acting like myself.”
Sydow and Tearra are hosting a viewing party for the episode at 400 Soundbar (6:45 p.m. Sun., 400 3rd Av. S., Mpls., $10 donation) that doubles as a fundraiser for the MS Assistance Fund. Sydow says her success has made her more comfortable with talking about her own struggles with multiple sclerosis. In 2007, she spent months in bed, numb from the waist down. One day, she says she got up and put on a pretty dress.
That turning point led Sydow to pursue her fashion dreams. After winning Vita.mn’s Hotness competition in 2009, she has styled fashion spreads and runway shows for several entities (including Vita.mn), and runs her own image consulting company, I’ve Got Your Style (www.ivegotyourstyle.com). And she says she’s feeling great these days.
“The thing about MS is that people say, ‘Oh, but you look so good!’ It’s invisible,” Sydow says. “When you’re diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, you live in a state of fear. You don’t think you can jump in and follow your passion. I want to be an example; I want others to say, ‘Look what she did. I can do that too.’”
