Taco and tequila bar headed to Uptown

Amore Victoria's owners are opening Nico's Taco and Tequila Bar in the old Birdhouse space.

Two months after Birdhouse flew the coop, the cozy house-turned-restaurant space at 2516 Hennepin Av. S. is getting a new tenant with Uptown pedigree. Alex and Jenna Victoria, the husband-and-wife team behind Amore Victoria, are launching Nico’s Taco and Tequila Bar with their respective siblings (coincidentally Alex’s brother and Jenna’s sister are married) and partner Tim Ross.

Ross, who is leaving a Las Vegas bartending gig to head up Nico’s beverage program, said he plans to do scratch-made margaritas – hold the plastic-bottle triple sec – and open with 20 different lines of tequila. He also plans on infusing and barrel-aging tequilas in-house.

As for the fare, expect tacos (duh) made with as many local, organic ingredients as possible.

With nothing really needed in the remodeling department, Ross said they plan to open Sept. 3.
