Head to East Lake for a flick, or the Fairgrounds for some lit.

Still from Jaime Carrera & Tyler Jensen’s “Parade,” starring Kimberly Lesik.

East Lake Bike N’ Bus-In Cinema

In an age of pop-up galleries and pop-up shops, it was only a matter of time before we got pop-up cinema. East Lake Bike N’ Bus-In Cinema — a one-night-only pop-up event in an E. Lake Street parking lot — features a program of short films from and about Minneapolis, Lake Street, public art and the use of surplus urban space by Jaime Carrera with Tyler Jensen, Brad Zellar, Geoff Seelinger, Works Progress and others. The event is curated by Joan Vorderbruggen and Andy Sturdevant, who share a vision for reinvigorating vacant commercial storefronts, as evidenced by Vorderbruggen’s projects “Artists in Storefronts” and “Made Here,” and Sturdevant’s recent essay “A Field Guide to the Vacant Storefronts of East Lake Street,” from his new book “Potluck Supper With Meeting to Follow.” (7 p.m. Sat. Free. Forage Modern Workshop, 4023 E. Lake St., Mpls.) Jahna Peloquin
