The Metro Green Line opens Saturday (see cover story, page 24), connecting our Twin Cities with a train that will hopefully ease congestion and spur economic development. But the real benefit for Minnesotans is that we can booze it up at more bars without having to drive — the true measure of any great public works project. Glug along the Green Line during these happy hours.

Town Hall Brewery

1430 Washington Av. S., Mpls. • 612-339-8696 •

This Minneapolis brewpub has been a core pint peddler at Seven Corners for 17 years. Getting there just got easier with the nearby West Bank station. Sip Town Hall’s award-winning beers without spending your light-rail fare from 3-6 p.m. weekdays and 10 p.m. to close Sunday through Thursday, when house brews are only $3.

The Dubliner Pub

2162 W. University Av., St. Paul • 651-646-5551 •

This Dubliner sits a few blocks from the Raymond Avenue station, and the charming Irish dive bar is showing its LRT love with live music outdoors from 1 p.m. to midnight Saturday, plus a 3 p.m. pig roast. But come back any day from 4-7 p.m. and take a dollar off any drink.

Ngon Vietnamese Bistro

799 W. University Av., St. Paul • 651-222-3301 •

A block from the Victoria Street station, Frogtown’s favorite house of pho hooks it up for happy hour. Enjoy $3 Summits, $5 house wine and $7.50 select house cocktails from 3-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 3-5 p.m. Friday. Score the same deals from 10 p.m. to close Saturday and those $3 Summits all day Sunday.
