Back and forth on Iggy Azalea's 'Fancy'

Is the Song of the Summer even good? Tough to say.

Iggy Azalea, possibly wondering, "Does 'Fancy' even deserve all this?'"

On one hand... It’s catchy. It makes us feel fancy. Also, it’s enjoying a pretty nice reign on charts (20 weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100, currently at No. 2), so people must like it. How could so many be so wrong? Did we mention it’s catchy?

On the other hand... There’s some strong evidence to suggest that Iggy Azalea is the worst person in rap music today. Exhibit A: She’s been caught going on seemingly racist Twitter tirades.

Back on the first hand... Charli XCX, who sings the hook, has produced a ton of exciting music, starting when she was only 14 years old — her parents gave her a loan to make her 2008 debut album, “14.” And her song “Boom Clap” is one of the coolest songs of this summer.

Then again, on the other hand... Azalea’s the worst, Exhibit B: Her beef with Nicki Minaj, one of the most talented rappers making music today, is a sore spot for us. The beef goes all the way back to 2010, when Azalea tweeted “lmao at nikki saying she did the bet awards live. errrrr. if you say so girl.”

So about the the first hand... The song has a good vibe to be the summer song. It’s powerful and individualistic and it’s the kind of song that makes you feel like maybe you could fly first-class someday.

OK, the other hand... We’re not fancy and can’t relate to the lyrics. Where’s this fast lane from L.A. to Tokyo? In the ocean?

Still — on the one hand... Did we mention it’s catchy? It must be true: You get the summer song you think you deserve.
