MSP Fashion Week in review: The Shows f. Emma Berg, Amanda Christine & Kimberly Jurek
posted by jahna in fashion

It's no secret that our homegrown fashion week has undergone a significant transformation this year. After the past few seasons saw the week of events having ramped up to a breakneck pace, with multiple events sometimes overlapping on the same night, this year the lineup has been whittled down considerably, moved from April to February, and gotten a name change (from MNfashion Week to the more official-sounding Minneapolis-St. [...]

Hotness 2012: What They Wore
posted by elndahl in fashion

Seeing hotness in a person is a pretty subjective endeavor. Some people only respond to raw sex-appeal, some like a bit of quirk, and yet others like confidence and how a person presents him/herself. Here's a few hotties that sport different definitions of (and hopefully this will be the last time I use this word until next year) hotness. [...]

Doo-Ri for Impulse at Macy's hits stores this week
posted by jahna in fashion

On the heels of collaborations with Karl Lagerfeld and Giambattista Valli, Macy's is releasing its latest designer line for its "Impulse" category on Wednesday with New York-based designer Doo-Ri Chung. It remains to be seen whether the retailer's attempt to cash in on the sell-out success of Target and H&M's designer collaborations will fall in their favor, but judging from the video preview (which you can watch below), there's no reason it shouldn't. [...]

Avoid the Grey attendee style
posted by elndahl in fashion

The format for this annual show changed this year. Instead of a runway presentation, the models posed in large wooden boxes, complete with peep holes for viewing. Everyone mingled and viewed the clothing at their leisure, while sipping drinks and chatting. [...]

NOTE!! The shanties are only open weekends. The Strib/Vita.mn website and event the art shanties website, at quick glance, make it seem open all the time (and I think they have been in the past). But they're only open weekends. Learned the hard way on Monday. But they were still neat to look at, with no one there, guessing about the fun and festivities that probably went on last weekend and will likely go on this weekend! [...]

?A Moment Stays? is an exhibition of more than 20 silkscreen prints, off-set lithographs and small mixed-media paper sculptures by Minnesota native, Drew Peterson. Both futuristic and nostalgic,? Peterson?s colorful prints draw from a rich historical mix of print making influences including Ukiyo-e, a style of Japanese woodblock prints and early Impressionist lithographs. [...]

Guthrie Theatre, Holidazzle Parade, and Dayton?s holiday events. In the hands of a designer such as Edwards, a performer?s stage identity is made visible through costume, hair, and accessories, so that the character he or she portrays is understood by the audience.
