The Haunted Basement in 2008

OPENING: The twisted minds behind this popular Halloween haunt — in the already-creepy basement of a former soap factory — hope to top themselves again with an all-new underworld of artist-made installations and costumed performers under the direction of Noah Bremer for a second year. Two new additions ratchet up the stakes this year. First, Hardened Haunted Basement vets can brave it alone with the purchase of a special “Test Subject” ticket, available only on Halloween night. And those needing to unwind after emerging from the basement can head to the new Spooky Speakeasy, a pop-up bar hosted by the Northstar Bartenders Guild’s Johnny Michaels and Nick Kosevich every Friday and Saturday night in October, plus Halloween and opening night. (6 p.m.-midnight Thu.-Sun. Through Nov. 3, $25-$27, 18 & older. “Test Subject”: 11:45 p.m. Oct. 31, $100, 18 & older. “Fraidy Cat” all-ages tours: 10 a.m.-noon Oct. 13, 20 & 27. $25-$27. The Soap Factory, 514 SE. 2nd St., Mpls. 612-623-9176 or www.soapfactory.org.)
