Known for its atmospheric, shimmering, elegant sound, Sigur Rós will perform April 3 at the Twin Cities venue that pretty much is the opposite of elegance, St. Paul’s Roy Wilkins Auditorium. The Icelandic band lists the Roy halfway down its list of spring U.S. dates newly announced this morning, a tour that begins March 24 in Washington, D.C., and includes a March 25 gig at Madison Square Garden. Fan-club ticket pre-sale for the tour will begin Wednesday, and general on-sale is expected Friday or Saturday at prices yet to be announced. The group's last few Twin Cities area performance were at the Orpheum.

About the only thing Wilkins Auditorium is good for, the visual side of Sigur Rós' current stage production is said to be quite mesmerizing. You can get a taste of it in this clip below of the band performing a new song, “Brennistein,” at the recent Icelandic Airwaves Festival.
