The latest face of Guess Jeans could turn out to be a Minnesotan. Minneapolis model Valerie Carpender was among the 25 semi-finalists selected out of 30,000 entries by the brand for the online contest to select the brand's new Guess Girl. The contestant with the most votes wins the coveted slot, which helped launch the modeling careers of Claudia Schiffer, Anna Nicole Smith and Drew Barrymore.
"To be a Guess Girl is to be an icon," Carpender said. "[Guess co-founder] Paul Marciano has discovered and launched the careers of so many of the supermodels we know by placing them in his Guess ads first. Claudia Schiffer is one of my favorites - she embodies bombshell beauty with an endless career as a model."
A Forest Lake native, Carpender has been modeling on and off for five years collectively in between getting her fine arts degree from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. The 5-foot-10 blonde currently splits her time between art and modeling, and is represented locally by Wehmann Models & Talent in addition to agencies in Chicago and Florida.
Carpender currently holds the no. 11 slot in the rankings. The pubilc may vote for their favorite contestant once daily until the contest ends on Friday at midnight.
Update: At 2:15 p.m. on Friday, Carpender was in the no. 2 slot.
