In a fan-voted contest last week, Minneapolis model Valerie Carpender was close to becoming the next Guess Girl. But after momentarily moving her way up into the (randomly-ordered) top five, the Forest Lake native slipped back down below the top five mark by the time the contest ended on Friday at midnight, eliminating her chance to become the next Claudia Schiffer -- at least for now.

According to an entry on Carpender's personal blog, she narrowly missed landing a spot in the top five. She said that after bouncing in and out of the top five for the final day of the contest, she is assuming she came in sixth -- likely missing the top five by only a few votes.

Carpender was among the 25 semi-finalists selected out of 30,000 entries by the brand for the online contest to select the brand's new Guess Girl.
