'Book of Mormon' coming back to Minneapolis

Hennepin Theatre Trust's 2014-2015 Broadway season also includes revivals of "Motown," "Kinky Boots" and others.

The Book of Mormon” is returning to the Twin Cities. The blockbuster musical, which had a sold-out run in Feb., 2013, will anchor the Hennepin Theatre Trust’s Broadway season in Minneapolis, it was announced on Wednesday.

The line-up that also includes “Motown,” “Kinky Boots,” “Pippin’,” and “Dirty Dancing — The Classic Story Onstage.”

Altogether, the shows have won nearly three dozen Tony Awards.

The season kicks off with “Mormon,” the acidic send-up of religious missionaries in Africa by the creators of “South Park” that won nine Tonys (Aug. 20–Sept. 7). It continues with “Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story on Stage” (Oct. 7–19), followed by “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas” (Nov. 25–30) then, for the holidays, “Motown The Musical” (Dec. 16–28).

The line-up also includes “I Love Lucy Live on Stage,” (Jan. 20–25, 2015), “Pippin,’,” which won the Tony for best revival last year (Feb. 17-22), “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” (March 10–15, 2015), “Annie” (March 31–April 5, 2015), the return of the popular Four Seasons musical “Jersey Boys” (April 28–May 3, 2015) and “Kinky Boots,” the old-style musical about the revival of a bankrupt footwear business that won six Tonys last year, including best musical (July 28–Aug. 2, 2015).

Theater Latté Da artistic director Peter Rothstein also will revive “Oliver!” at Pantages as part of the trust’s the locally produced Broadway Re-Imagined series (Feb. 4–March 1, 2015).
