Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra
If you liked “flamenco nouveau” guitarist Ottmar Liebert and his band Luna Negra back in the early 1990s, you’ll dig his new CD “Dune.” It’s as romantic, atmospheric, and evocative as fans have come to expect, and the new flourishes — including a bit of electronic “treatments” and “sound design” from Andrew Gaskins, and a few funk beats — are brief, fitting and subtle. On the impressive track “Sand,” Liebert packs three alluring musical sketches into a mere five minutes, the last one featuring some discreet Santana-esque electric guitar soloing. It’s like a picture-free movie — flamenco noir. Tom Surowicz
