Matisyahu with the Dirty Heads
Meet the new Matisyahu. The beard and hat are gone. So is the deal with Epic Records. And Los Angeles, not New York, is home. The Hassidic reggae star of the ’00s has changed his look, address and sound, going for a more pop-reggae sound on this year’s “Spark Seeker” album on his own Fallen Sparks imprint. The rock-tinged “I Believe in Love,” the celebrative “Shine on You” and “Buffalo Soldier,” featuring Shyne, stand out. A spiritual vibe still permeates some of the material, including “Tel Aviv’n” and “King Crown of Judah.” The Dirty Heads and Moon Taxi open. Jon Bream
