Die Antwoord - SOLD OUT
Die Antwoord is either the most cartoonish hip-hop act since Vanilla Ice, or its genius is entirely lost in translation. The South African rap/rock/techno group, led by fly-guy-looking rapper Ninja, raps in Afrikaans dialect as well as English and specializes in bizarre music videos with reoccurring, nightmarish characters (think Tool) and grimey, mashed-up beats and worldy electronic sounds (think: Dizzee Rascal or M.I.A., but nowhere near as talented). Music industry legend Jimmy Iovine signed them to Interscope Records, so maybe some day they’ll catch on like Bob Marley or U2 did. But not likely. Also headed to Lollapalooza, they’re performing here in the weekly Too Much Love dance party with Soviet Panda. Chris Riemenschneider
