Debashish Bhattacharya

Hindustani slide guitarist Debashish Bhattacharya started out as a child prodigy, playing a recital on Indian national radio at the ripe old age of four. He's gone on to be a musical inventor, pioneer, and proselytizer, crafting three patented instruments of his own design, and trading licks with such diverse Westerners as jazz fusion hero John McLaughlin, dobro king Jerry Douglas, and Southern blues-rock/jam band star Derek Trucks. Bhattacharya's also recorded with idiosyncratic, open-minded U.S. slide guitar master, Bob Brozman, and earned a Grammy nomination for his 2008 release, "Calcutta Chronicles." The duo of Steve Sklar and Johnna Morrow open. Sklar is Minnesota's master of Tuvan-style "throat singing," so expect a thoroughly exotic evening. Tom Surowicz
