Acoustic Africa with Dobet Gnahore
The latest “Acoustic Africa” tour puts the spotlight squarely on female performers. Headliner Dobet Gnahore made her U.S. debut in the 2006 edition of the same popular showcase tour, and has gone on to win a Grammy with R&B singer India.Arie. She’s joined by bassist, vocalist and fellow Ivory Coast native Manou Gallo, who’s crisscrossed the globe with Zap Mama, and young Cameroonian singer Kareyce Fotso, making her Twin Cities debut. The backing band is likewise led by a noteworthy female: U.S. jazz fusion guitar star Leni Stern, who’s been immersing herself in African sounds lately. Tom Surowicz
