REVIEW

Because it is associated with a hotel, FireLake will probably never get the respect it deserves, but it's really a very good restaurant. The menu is eclectic enough to include a couple of hand-formed pizzas, a grilled vegetable pesto agnolotti pasta, and linguine with white clam sauce, (which all probably qualify as naturalized American cuisine), but most of the fare is classic Americana with only a few "gourmet" touches, prepared with care from high-quality ingredients. Breakfast features one of the most varied and imaginative menus around, with options ranging from malted Belgian waffles to a poached egg and walleye hash. The dining room, with dark wood, soft lighting and an open kitchen, strikes just the right balance between elegant and casual. Wine list: Mostly American and moderately priced. Long specialty cocktails list, too.
