Found Footage Festival

Price: $12

When: Ended 09/19/12

Where: Columbia Heights Public Library

In the age of YouTube, the Found Footage Festival feels like a wonderfully retro relic. The touring film fest begun by three Wisconsin childhood friends prides itself on its VHS-only policy. Beginning in 2004, co-founders Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher have taken their vault of unintentionally hilarious footage, culled from VHS tapes discovered at garage sales and thrift stores, around the country. Since then, the fest has appeared on NPR and “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and released annual DVD volumes. The show structure is basically like a live version of “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” with running jokes and commentary from the hosts, whose comedy credits include “MST3K,” the Onion and “The Colbert Report.” The show is also something of a homecoming — one of the first-ever Found Footage Fests took place in Minnesota.
