REVIEW

If you could combine the best of Marx Wine Bar and Grill in Stillwater and Beaujo's Wine Bar & Bistro in Edina, you would come pretty close to wine bar perfection.

The best thing about Marx is chef Mark Hansen's eclectic and imaginative cuisine. You can graze your way through an interesting list of small courses, make a light supper of pizza and salad or opt for a more substantial plate of pasta, meat or fish.

Marx is loud, crowded and high-energy. The walls are painted lime-green and electric blue, the tables are bright red and the lamp covers are every shade of the rainbow. It's the kind of place where people have to talk really loud to hear each other because other people are talking really loud.

If you go, expect a wait. Marx only takes reservations for the two booths, which seat parties of six or more. Otherwise, the wait can be up to two hours.

Best bets from the grazing (i.e. appetizer) section of the menu include the crostini of savory shredded duck and roast garlic served on toasted Italian bread ($4.50); skewers of grilled seasoned ground lamb served over a sauce of mint, dill and yogurt ($5.75); and the arancini ($4.50), little balls of short-grained rice laced with chorizo and topped with melted mozzarella.
