Labor Day weekend deals

Stay in town instead of trying to cram in one more trip to the cabin.

Labor's Eve
Labor Day was seemingly invented for that last-chance summer getaway, but unless you have a cabin within a few hours reach, it's easy to spend the weekend stuck within city limits. Still, the ability to go out guilt-free on Sunday night is sweet silver lining, and these deals make it less expensive than that tank of gas to Lake Wobegon.
Amore Victoria
1601 W. Lake St., Mpls. • 612-823-0250 • www.amorevictoria.com
This Italian bistro isn't a bad place to rally your cabin-less crew this Sunday. An all-day happy hour means $3 beers, $4 house wines and wells, $7 martinis and $4-$6 apps and pizzas. Nearby Lake Calhoun is not as cloistral as one in Nowheresville, Minn., but at least it doesn't take three hours to get there.
Leaning Tower of Pizza
2324 Lyndale Av. S., Mpls. • 612-377-3532 • www.leaningtowermpls.com
We love a good townie bar, and during Leaning Tower's late-night happy hour you can pay the same small-town prices as your cabin-bound buds. Every day from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. take two bucks off all wine and liquor or enjoy two-for-one beers while noshing pizza that Heggie's can't hang with.
Eat Street Social
18 W. 26th St., Mpls. • 612-767-6850 • www.eatstreetsocial.com
Who needs the remoteness of rural Minnesota with all the (boozy) amenities in the city? This craft-cocktail hangout makes keeping it local appealing, with its 10 p.m.-1 a.m. Sunday-through-Thursday late happy hour, featuring $10 bottles of wine, dollar-off taps and a pair of discounted signature drinks. Beats guzzling cans of domestic beer and caking on bug spray.
