Deals: bloody good bargains

The best spots for affordable morning drunkenness.

Whether you’re rebounding from a rough night or trying to hit your vegetable quota in the booziest way possible, the Bloody Mary is an a.m. tradition. Its beer-backed, rejuvenating zest can snap even the groggiest guzzler into a state of alertness (or drunkenness, if not careful). Some tomato-juiced treats come with a side of sticker shock, but not these bargain bloodies.

Uptown Tavern & Rooftop

1400 Lagoon Av., Mpls. • 612-824-3333 • www.

If one too many beer-tub trips at this Uptown bro bar resulted in a temple-throbbing hangover, ironically a next-day return might remedy your condition. On Saturday and Sunday the Uptown Tavern offers build-your-own bloodies for just $3 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Don’t worry, the hair-gelled guidos should be docile at this hour.

O’Gara’s Bar and Grill

164 N. Snelling Av., St. Paul • 651-644-3333 •

A little hair of the dog à la whiskey might seem an appropriate (if not risky) recuperative method at an Irish bar. However, a Bloody Mary at O’Gara’s could be the better buy. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the classic morning cocktail is only $3.50. The whiskey can wait until you’re back in the saddle.

Pat’s Tap

3510 Nicollet Av. S., Mpls. • 612-822-8216 •

Weekend drinkers shouldn’t have all the dipsomaniacal fun. Thankfully, Pat’s Tap is looking out for the naughty luncher and weekday warrior, slinging two-for-one bloodies from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The south Minneapolis pub is a prime place for off-day imbibing or a lunch-hour pick-me-up.
