While nothing rivals St. Patrick’s Day in terms of drunken cultural holidays, Cinco de Mayo has become a favorite fiesta among sauce sippers of all backgrounds. Toss back some tequila on Sunday (or sooner) and thriftily join the fun at these Twin Cities bars.

Bar Abilene

1300 Lagoon Av., Mpls. • 612-825-2525 • www.barabilene.com

For those who can’t wait until the weekend, this Uptown Tex-Mex joint is throwing a Dos de Mayo bash (why not?) on Thursday, with live music, salsa dancing and a taco eating contest. Bargain boozers should be most excited for $6 Sauza margaritas all day and free Monster Rehab tequila shots (if you dare) handed out from 7-10 p.m. Plus, Dos Equis will be $4 all weekend.

Barrio

235 E. 6th St., St. Paul • 651-222-3250 • www.barriotequila.com

Do a little day drinking at Barrio’s Minneapolis, St. Paul or Edina locations and marvel at your Chihuahua-sized tab. Enjoy $3 Dos Equis taps and $5 Barrio margaritas between noon and 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Twin Cities tequila bars. Cerveza swigging just got cheaper.

Pancho Villa

2539 Nicollet Av. S., Mpls. • 612-871-7014 • www.panchovillasgrill.com

This Eat Street institution is marking the occasion with a discount on its heralded margarita. All day Sunday, margaritas made with your choice of tequila are just $6 (super-size that sweet elixir for another buck). We’re not opposed to riding the rails, but anytime you can save some pesos without cutting out the premium hooch is a win.
