Celebrate your freedom to celebrate July 4th a day early.

Not yet! It's only July 3, and you're drinking.

With July 4th coming next Thursday, it’s time to start salivating over the prospect of a four-day weekend. But why wait until the 4th when you’ll be thirsty on the 3rd? Start a patriotic pre-party Wednesday with these bar deals.

Dixie’s on Grand

695 Grand Av., St. Paul • 651-222-7345 •

If a half-day at work precedes your holiday, there’s no reason not to have a $2.50 rail drink or domestic bottle, $3.50 tap beer or $4 glass of wine in hand as soon as Dixie’s daily 3-6 p.m. happy hour starts. Should the boss keep you shackled late, the Southern-cookin’ St. Paulites sling half-price wine bottles Wednesdays from 6-10 p.m.

Tugg’s Tavern

219 SE. Main St., Mpls. • 612-379-4404 •

While Tugg’s is not a bad place to watch fireworks on the 4th, there are bargain beers to be had Wednesday after work. Take $2.25 Coors Light or Grain Belt Premium, $2.50 rails or $3.25 wines from 4-6 p.m. daily (not available July 4). Plus, select seasonal pints are $3.50 all day Wednesdays. Lounge your way into the long weekend on Tugg’s riverfront patio.

With Uncle Sam sanctioning an off-day on Thursday, Lucia’s late happy hour looks even better on Wednesday night. From 9-11 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday (though they’re closed on the 4th), the foodie-favorite Uptown eatery offers $3 select pints, a $6 wine option, $7 select cocktails and assorted cheap eats. George Washington would totally approve of these Independence Eve deals.
