“I’m never drinking again” — a phrase groaned through many a hangover on New Year’s Day. It’s an empty promise made in a moment of agony. However, a new year’s cleanse isn’t the worst idea. We’re not saying give up the hooch for good, but for an alcohol reprieve check out these detoxifying deals.

Tao Natural Foods

2200 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls. • 612-612-377-4630 • www.taonaturalfoods.com

A full-on juice diet sounds intense. But more vitamin C and less BAC couldn’t hurt. Make your next happy hour at Tao, where juice blends and smoothies are a dollar off weekdays from 3-6 p.m. In case you feel like cheating, beer and wine is a buck off, too.

Verdant Tea

2111 E. Franklin Av., Mpls. • 612-223-8907 • minneapolis.verdanttea.com

This Seward tea spot hooks it up for early birds, and while you’re off the booze your mornings should be a little less groggy. From 8-10 a.m. daily, pound bottomless tea for $2 like it’s an New Year’s Eve open bar without the repercussions. Make it a congee combo for $7.50 or nibble $2 single tea snacks.

Neighborhood Cafe

1570 Selby Av., St. Paul • 651-644-8887 • www.theneighborhoodcafemn.com

Taking a time out from alcohol doesn’t have to mean a total health blitz. Drop by the Neighborhood Cafe from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, when $6 is good for a burger, fries and a Coke (hold the Jack, Captain or whatever). If you must, swap that soda for a Summit for an extra $2.
