Mom's love is fickle - win her favor with an afternoon drink.

Lest you be relegated to the doghouse for the next year, do not forget Sunday - this Sunday, May 11 - is Mother’s Day. The least you can do is buy her a card and a meal. But why not maximize your mom time (and your dollar) with these afternoon happy hours?

JJ’s Coffee & Wine Bistro

1806 W. Lake St., Mpls. • 612-522-8000 •www.jjscoffeecompany.com

Go for offspring of the year and take Mom for a stroll around Lake Calhoun, then pop into this nearby coffee shop/wine bar for a daytime tipple. During JJ’s 3-6 p.m. daily happy hour, enjoy $2 Grain Belts and PBR tallboys, $4 house wines, $5 sake cocktails and $6 flatbread pizzas, or take a buck off all other wines, beers or apps.

Loring Kitchen and Bar

1359 Willow St., Mpls. • 612-843-0400 • www.loringkitchen.com

Unfortunately, LKB’s pulling its normal Sunday wine deal (half-price bottles from 5-11 p.m.) for the Hallmark holiday. But the parkside restaurant’s daily 2-6 p.m. happy hour, featuring $3.50 beers, $4.50 house wines and rails, $6 martinis and $4-$12 bites is in full effect. Nothing says love like getting Ma loaded before dinner.

Salut St. Paul

917 Grand Av., St. Paul • 651-917-2345 • www. salutbaramericain.com

Spend Mother’s Day bumming around St. Paul and hit up Salut’s 3-6 p.m. daily happy hour. Treat Mom to $4 taps, wells and house wines and discount grub for $1-$7 at this French-American eatery. She’ll be so high on quality time (and cheap booze) she won’t even notice you got her the same scented candle as last year.
