Trylon Microcinema 5th Anniversary Silent Film Festival

Independent, intimate movie house Trylon Microcinema turns five years old this month, and to celebrate, they’re screening classic silent films every weekend in July with live accompaniment from local bands. This weekend includes a screening of the rare 1927 proto-feminist British silent “Hindle Wakes,” controversial in its day for portraying sexually liberated women, with a soundtrack from Trylon regulars Dreamland Faces. Additional screenings include “Nosferatu” with Fate’s Palette (July 11-13), “Metropolis” with Fugitive (July 18-20) and Buster Keaton in “Go West” with the Rats and People MN (July 27-30). (7 p.m. Fri.-Sat., 5 & 7:30 p.m. Sun. $8. Trylon Microcinema, 3258 Minnehaha Av. S., Mpls. 612-424-5468. www.take-up.org.) Jahna Peloquin
