Lyle Lovett & And His Large Band

7:30 p.m. • Minnesota Zoo • $68.50-$80.50

Even though he has performed 952 shows in various Twin Cities venues since 1987, Lovett has not heretofore brought His Large Band to the Minnesota Zoo. After testing the waters at the Zoo last summer with His Acoustic Group, Lovett arrives with His Large Band for an evening in which folk, blues, country, gospel, jazz, R&B, storytelling and humor meld into a captivatingly original Texas-flavored concoction. He will be trying to return to reality after just playing the Hollywood Bowl with Willie Nelson (who performed his “Stardust” album in its entirety) and Denver’s legendary Red Rocks with Kris Kristofferson. Giving Tree Band

9 p.m. • 7th Street Entry • 18-plus • $10

Using a kinda dorky/kinda cool approach to measure new band buzz, Paste Magazine selected Giving Tree Band as one of 13 emerging acts of the year based on social media trends. Evidently (and ironically), the old-timey Americana crew racked up enough follows, likes and YouTube views to make the grade. Never mind that the Illinois septet’s latest album, “Vacilador,” is post-gold rush music laden with straw-chewing banjos and country-road melodies that don’t exactly scream #FF. GTB’s Grateful Dead influence makes the sibling-founded band jam-fan accessible. Big Tree Bonsai opens. Michael Rietmulder
