Crypticon
Conventions for every kind of nerd have been popping up the past few years. There's CONvergence for the sci-fi party nerds, Kakkoi Con for anime nerds, MarsCon for the sci-fi serious nerds, Writercon for literary nerds and Gaylaxicon for, well, gay nerds. Since 2006, there's also been Crypticon, the largest gathering of horror-film geeks in the Midwest.
Stars from classic horror films such as "Halloween," "Return of the Living Dead," "Friday the 13th" and "The Amityville Horror" will make appearances -- as will original "Ghostbuster" Ernie Hudson. There also will be live bands, film screenings, party rooms, horror film merchandise and costume contests. (5 p.m. Fri.-1 a.m. Sat., 11 a.m. Sat.-1 a.m. Sun., 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sun.)
