Election Night Parties

We're a week away now, can you believe it? Regardless of where you're currently sitting on the political spectrum, I think we can all agree that it's a damn good thing this Presidential race is almost over.

So where the party at? We're all gonna need a drink come poll-close next Tuesday.

I found this list of poll-watching bar parties on Citysearch.com today:

- The Independent: "Having hosted Independent, Democratic and Republican meetings, this is truly a bipartisan bar with big screens and drink specials for the election."
- Major's, Roseville: "This major media venue is dedicating an entire room--30 TV screens--to election coverage with drink specials for all."
- Town Hall Brewery: "Seventy-five cents off all beers to anyone with an "I Voted" sticker."
- Bar Abilene: "Red, white and blue Jello shots and various drink specials until the election results are final."
- The Herkimer: "Cheer the results with a few brews from this Uptown restaurant and brewpub."
- Bulldog NE: "Students and locals can enjoy the good grub while monitoring the polls on the Bulldog?s big TVs."

The Twin Cities LiveJournal community is having a party at the 508 Bar & Restaurant downtown, but they'd prefer an RSVP on via LJ if you're going to show up.

Anybody going anywhere that isn't someone's living room? We've got a fairly politically diverse mix of users here and most of us appreciate a good cocktail; dare we suggest a vita.mn poll-watching party at one of our favorite venues?

Yes, please! No matter the outcome, I think we need to double-fist some drinks and appetizers. Dare I bring cookies? I dare.

I'm gonna celebrate with $20 tickets to the opera. I don't imagine this'll be settled by 11pm so I feel safe ensconced in the Ordway with some Mozart and the Orient Express.

That's a good point- it seems like we never know the results of an election until we wake up the next day. Still might be fun to watch the results coming in while kicking back Jell-o shots. Okay, maybe not Jell-o shots.

I have this horrible feeling that Walnuts McCain and Co. are going to fight this to a bitter, drawn out and horrible end.

I'm going to start my own Republic.

Christian-land. We've got Christ in our name!

Hmm, tell me more about this Christian-land. I'll secede if your bill of rights includes creamy puree soups, some sort of giant enclosed warm-weather bubble and desserts served in martini glasses.

It's gonna be over by 8. The problem will be getting home soon enough.

I am considering to apply for dual citizenship to have the option of live either back home (India) or here in U.S.

My friends who are originally from U.S, are in Spain and Mexico at this moment. They are seriously considering to extend their contracts if Republicans win this election. I have heard the same from many of my acquaintances and of course you know Tina Fey is leaving Earth if Sarah Palin's ticket wins.

I'm blessed with dual citizenship (between here and ma patrie - France) and might catch the next powder out if Walnuts wins.

Christian-land does involve creamy purees - mostly mushroom-based and less so squash-based. Citizens live in their own warm weather bubbles that can on occasion merge with other bubbles in the interests of socialization and procreation. However, desserts are served in troughs. The flag will be a picture of my pug dog and the national song will be something of Madonna's.

Or Donna Summer's.

Or ABBA.
posted by alexism on Oct. 28, '08 at 2:28 PM
I would like the temperature inside my bubble to increase by 20 F degrees every time I merge for sex. Mmm, toasty warm sex. I also accept troughs because it's probably the best way to serve warm chocolate chip cookies.

I'll kick off the democracy of Christian-land by voting Madge over Donna or ABBA.

I'm hoping to learn about frostbitten sex here in Minnemasota.

The tribunal will meet to consult and take your vote into consideration.

P.S. Said tribunal is meeting in Oakland at the Madonna concert this Saturday night. Whut whut. The tribunal is so excited they can't put it into words.

That's a good attitude: If your party doesn't win, leave the country. That will really improve things. Thanks for playing, come again.

Can't win. Don't try. It's the French way.

(Insert quip about cheese-eating surrender monkeys here)

My decision of leaving (which i dont think will happen) will depend on the economy and job opportunities. So having an dual citizneship always gives me a choice and i like having choices. If my decision to leave depended on political parties, i would have been long gone.

I hit up Bryant Lake Bowl in '06 and had a good time...

This is why I secretly hope Obama wins...I really think the economy will recover much quicker just because so many democrats will have the perception of the country being in a better place.

CHEESE EATING SURRENDER MONKEYS!!!!!

I vow to use that once a day.

I will more than likely just watch the election from my couch, since I need to be here in case the democrats win and I need to talk the uber-conservative, mega-republican off the ledge.

But I will welcome either new administration with a strong martini and a bowl of ice cream.

Chocolate chip cookies. Sex. This all sounds wonderful. So are we going to have a vita.mn election day thing or what? I've got ants in my pants

Our friends at Style Laboratory are having a glitzy election party at RWFB atop Chambers... I'd check it out.

They throw a decent party sometimes, but I wouldn't mind something more laid back, closer to home, Northeast-y. 331, Mayslack's, Knight Cap?
posted by auddiemercury on Oct. 29, '08 at 11:46 AM
Ooh, Mayslack's! I'm in

Came across a couple more election night parties:

Brit's Pub: Election trivia, plus Red Stripe and Blue Moon on special all night.

Bryant-Lake Bowl: Poll results on the big screen in the BLB theater, plus $3 Bell's beer from 10pm to close.

Make sure to wear your "I Voted" sticker for possible drink specials at any bar you end up at on election night.

Also, it looks like ThriftyHipster.com is also having a party at the 508, open to everyone.

Found another one:

Nomad Pub: Poll results on the TVs and a free pint with your "I Voted" sticker.

Parties can also be found at the leaning tower, lyle's and the rail station.

Here's the link for the thing at the Chambers. I'm kinda down with that.

I also rounded up the local election day freebies on my blog, which I'm too lazy to repost right now on vita.mn.

I put This Guide together last night and I think it might have a few things that "Girl Friday" didn't catch. I did steal a few from you as well.

Free Wilde Roast cookie, nice. I'm stealing that one!

We no longer have Krispy Kremes in MN. I found the Topper's info on some deals forum but couldn't confirm elsewhere.

Riddle me this. If you are an Obama supporter (like I am) why would you hang on election night at an upscale establishment?
posted by seriousfunmpls on Nov. 4, '08 at 10:12 AM
Because i am an elitist, ha :)
posted by alexism on Nov. 4, '08 at 10:32 AM
I don't get it; is that a classism joke?
posted by seriousfunmpls on Nov. 4, '08 at 10:35 AM
Obama was always accused of being an elitist by many, so i was being sarcastic.

So did ya hear? It is illegal to reward people for voting...Starbucks is now giving everyone a free cup-o-coffee. I wonder if the other places will follow??
posted by alexism on Nov. 4, '08 at 11:27 AM
I doubt it; Ben & Jerry's has been doing this for a long time. What's the penalty? They have to take all their ice cream back?
posted by thejackal on Nov. 4, '08 at 12:30 PM
yeah we need a citation on that one...
posted by BeckaWie on Nov. 4, '08 at 1:02 PM
it was on mpr. They're comparing it to paying for votes - which is illegal. Giving out ice cream and coffee for people who have already voted does not seem like the same thing to me, but people will read into anything and everything.
