SIX FEET UNDER

7 p.m. • Station 4 • 18-plus • $17-$20

Chris Barnes is one of the original Cookie Monster vocalists, championing an unearthly and guttural style similar to the insatiable crumb-gobbler. Tonal similarities aside, the former Cannibal Corpse frontman's lyrics are assuredly more macabre than anything the cookie-craving Muppet could ever conceive. With as much celebrity as the death metal scene permits, the pro-weed Barnes has made this onetime side gig his mainstay since the mid-'90s and the Florida quintet released its 13th album earlier this year. Animal rights-advocating grindcore band Cattle Decapitation (seriously), Wretched and locals Agitate and Ghost Hook open. MICHAEL RIETMULDER

BETTYE LAVETTE

7 p.m. Mon.-Tue. • Dakota Jazz Club • $45

A regular visitor to the Dakota since 2004, rebounding R&B star LaVette is riding high once again thanks to her raw and riveting new memoir, "A Woman Like Me" (co-written with David Ritz, who did similar duties for Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and Buddy Guy), and her impressive new "Thankful 'N' Thoughtful" album, featuring songs by Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Sly Stone plus her penetrating reading of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy." Look for those new numbers to be in her I'm-in-pain-but-I-will-survive repertoire. JON BREAM
