Live Music In Your Living Room!
posted by AlphaBean on Jul. 16, '09 at 1:46 AM

I wish I went to more shows; I'd go to The Varsity all the time. My first time there, I stood the entire time. For some reason, an evening on my feet at Varsity was far better than any other venue I've been to. I think it's because there is enough air flowing through the place that I wasn't hit with a claustrophobia attack.

My second trip I got to sit down in an overstuffed chair with an ottoman. A comfy chair, an alcoholic beverage and Nikka Costa, courtesy of vita.mn. Thank you, vita.mn!   Rating: *****

My Favorite Venue

This is an amazing venue. I'm a big fan of any place you can go to see a show...and sit in a nice comfy chair. it's a very chill environment. I try to hit this place up, even if I'm not a fan of the band.   Rating: *****

Beautiful venue!

I've seen a couple of different shows here as well as one of The Current/Citizen League's Policy and a Pint. It worked well for both - the space is beautiful, ornate, plushy and interesting. The sound in this small venue is great and the whole thing just feels cozy.

Spectacular

Amazing lighting and sound systems. The whole look and feel going in brings you into a world of elegance. Grab yourself a seat at a couch or go up to the spacious floor, either way you'll have a good time.   Rating: *****

None Other

I will voice only one complaint. They need better or more bar management. They have certainly done better with their alcohol service but I still think more can be done. There I'm done with that.

Now I can say just how much I love this place; it is very friendly and welcoming. It reminded me (not so ironically, I found out) of the first time I went to the Kitty Kat Club. So nice and warming, it's the kind of place I could curl up and take a nap . . . if I wasn't chugging Strongbow and sweating to Dance Band!   Rating: ****

Cozy

This place is amazing. Not only does it have couches and comfortable chairs for waiting out the bad opening band or taking a breather during a marathon show, the sound is great. I went to two shows there this past week, and I don't think I've ever been so pleased with the quality of the venue.   Rating: *****

An Excellent Venue!

This is one of my favorite venues in the Twin Cities. They usually have the sound mixed perfectly. The atmosphere is super comfortable and when the couches are out they have perfect seating.   Rating: *****

strange place

I feel this is a pretty strange venue- mostly because the seating is oddly on risers that are far away from the stage. Comfy couches that will suck you in and not let you out. I was there for a grad student event last fall, catered by Loring Pasta Bar, and there weren't enough seats so we had to sit on the floor. They had loud music and disco lights flashing everywhere so you couldn't tell what you were eating.   Rating: ***

Venue of Choice
posted by MattMartigan on Apr. 4, '07 at 9:23 AM

I was in there the opening weekend when the had mountains of air mattresses in stead of tables and chairs that line the risers now. Most bizarre. The Varsity has ever been the most beautiful place to see a show and now it has become the best place as well. The sound guy is miles better now and you can almost be assured that it's going to sound great.

In the past month I saw Alexi Murdoch who sounded and looked spectacular as the Cold War Kids which I stand by my call as the best show of 2007.

Don't miss Joseph Arthur at the end of April!

Great venue

I'm a big fan of the Varsity. The white lights are great and I feel just as cozy as can be. The Varsity is a truly unique venue.   Rating: ****

I died when I saw this place.

Beautiful. Lots of fun. Great ambiance, furniture, lighting, decor, all that jazz. The first time I saw this place I went with a friend to see ODC and Ari Herstand. I love the velvety stuff, the inflatable couches and chairs, and the long curtain things. Moving on, The Varsity has Grade-A-Top-Notch-Two-Thumbs-Up sound. None of this small club, "Hey, let's get a 100watt powered mixer and a couple of 1x15s!"

I like the Varsity Theater a lot.   Rating: *****
