Straights n' Queers n' Monica'll Skull F*ck Your Ears...

Some things never change. There's still a stall door missing in the women's loo downstairs. Camille Collins still has great legs, her headdresses still impress. Nina D'Angelo still gets a crowd going, whether it's with an Aretha Franklin medley or that recent Katy Perry hit about enjoying a brief foray into lesbianism via osculation. Joshua still makes me melt with his sly-suave drag king ways (though now he's backed by three other gents, too). Monica West (as host) still whips out crazy bon mots like, "Put your hands together like trailer trash at the tractor pull" and gets her jollies by skull-f*cking people who deign to sit on the edge of her stage and misbehave. And that's what's great about it. The Gay 90s on a Sunday night is still your surest bet for a high energy, professional-but-funny drag show in the Twin Cities. Sure, the crowd skews young and straight, but at least half the crowd is still on the GLBT side of things. The ladies here are polished and spend a ton of money on their acts and it shows. I'd also recommend checking out Wednesdays, when Joshua and his 24-Karat Kings hit the stage. As far as I'm concerned, he's the best thing about that place. Rating: *****

Drag Queens!

The Drag Queens used to come to Augsburg twice a year for the QSU Bi-Annual (eh, eh?!) gay celebration on campus. The Queens are fantastic performers AND people. YAY DRAG QUEENS! Rating: *****

A nice, big club, with good dancing, a hip-hop floor, a techno floor, and the singing upstairs. This spot is STR8 friendly. Say Word. Word, Brother, Word. Diverse in the house.

"Sure husband, how about checking that GAY bar we read about in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine?"
"Oh no wife, you mean those gay people! I like Will and Grace...but I don't know about a straight bar."
"Oh husband, don't worry! I think that the only gay people who go there are in the men's back room and wearing make-up on stage."
"Oh wife, you get me everytime! Let's go to Applebee's First"
