Nothing to write home about. Unless you want to write about this:
Dear Mom, Last night I went to Brothers Bar and Grill with some girl friends. The bouncer yelled at me for having a bottle of water in my purse and he took it away. Then some guys shoved us on the way in. I went up to the bar to order a drink but then I got pushed out of the way by a trannish woman who was with a bachelorette party. Some of my friends went to the dance floor and got dry-humped by some guy in a Alabama shirt. The DJ played Missy Elliott for two seconds then decided that Eminem was a better musician to dance to. I don't think I'll go again. Send my love to dad!

I used to hit places like this every once in a while for the "Mass of Humanity" factor. For some reason I enjoy the teeming unwashed massed as a kind of sociologal experiment. Any way the place has tremendous drink specials so if you are with enough people it works just fine as a place to stop in, have a few drinks to defer costs before moving on to someplace you might actualy enjoy.

I guess my few experiences at Brothers have not been as bad as the stories I've heard that would appear to indicate otherwise.
My first time going was for lunch during the work week. There was practically nobody in there, so we got quick and friendly service. The guy was doing double duty as bartender and waiter and didn't seem like too bad of a guy.
The lunch menu is unbelievably cheap for a decent amount of food. They offer the Brother's burger and fries for something like $3.95 or less. I had a chicken ranch sandwich and fries for about $5, which is even less than some shitty fast food.
The only other times I've gone in there is for happy hour before a show at First Ave. The drinks were super cheap and well-mixed by an attractive young female. There were $1 jagbomb shots, which is a deal even if they are pretty small. My friends and I all got pretty tuned up for the show on about $15 apiece, which hardly gets you two beers at First Ave.
I can't say I got to experience the douchebaggery of the college set. I guess we just went there at the right time on the right night of the week. I 'll probably go back for happy hour again before a show just to save some dough and get quick service. Who knows, maybe the place will really suck next time I go.

I don't think I'll be able to handle another trip

I'd heard stories, but never experienced Brothers first hand. My friends and I arrived on first inspection it didn't seem as bad as I'd heard. I was wrong... The evening was highlighted by the guys in the table next to us cussing each other out for 15 minutes and finally going out side to fight. I would expect this happens nightly, if not more often. If you're in college and want a place that's downtown that will serve you cheap crappy beer all night for free on your twenty first birthday, I still wouldn't recommend this place, especially if you are female. What is a college bar doing downtown anyway?
