Fabulous brunch! Great Fri & Sat night dancing posted by crysdon on Oct. 11, '09 at 11:04 PM
I could give this place a high rating for its setting alone. There is a great feel to it- even the bathrooms are unique and fun.
I have only ate the brunch here- and was overly impressed! Great selection of food, fairly fresh for buffet style service. It is one of the more expensive brunch buffets in the metro, and entirely worth it.
The salsa dancing on the weekends is frequented by experienced salsa dancers. There is some currently popular tunes mixed in. I am not a salsa dancer by any means, though I'm willing to try, and I still enjoyed myself! It's two levels, with tables and a bar upstairs that can be fun to sit and watch the dancers!
I'm excited to go back for either brunch or dancing!

The one thing that the Loring Pasta Bar has going for them is their entrancing setting; going to this restaurant feels like you're taking a visit to another place and time. It's a little pricey, so as a student, I've made sure to go only during the times that the student discount is valid. Overall, I'd say this is a great place to bring visiting guests, or in general, people you're trying to impress.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the Loring Pasta Bar. Its decor is amazing - have you seen the bathrooms?! - and I love the live music and dancing. That being said, service can be spotty. I've had wonderful and attentive servers, and I've had servers who act like they've never taken an order before. The food is good, but nothing special, and is slightly overpriced for portions/quality.
Because of the atmosphere, it's a solid choice for a first date or just a nice night out, but go with a good dose of patience and be prepared to have poor service.

Poor Service, High Prices in A Cool Atmosphere posted by polargirl1 on Mar. 7, '09 at 11:26 AM
We visited the Loring Pasta Bar last night for dinner with a large number of friends. Much to our dismay, prices have increased by leaps & bounds and the service was so poor that I could have had a stranger off the street serve me better.
We ordered the 'Foie Gras Cheese Plate' and could barely find the foie gras on the plate. It was the tiniest blob in some jam-like fruit sauce overwhelmed with 9 slices of brie & accompanied by 4 wheat crackers. At $12 a person - this definitely did not deliver.
The setting is very cool but with I think I'll spend my hard-earned $ elsewhere.

After discovering this place to see a local band (Facing The Plastic) play an acoustic set, I had to come back and have dinner with my girlfriend.
I did have a great time and wonderful service up in the red room, but when I returned with a date, we were treated poorly. I really felt they would rather of not had us as customers.
I was kind of hoping to impress my date a little, but the rude service was too hard to ignore.

4 courses - $40 posted by gregrmurphy on Dec. 16, '07 at 9:02 PM
If you haven't eaten for a while and have $40, head over here. Appetizer, pasta, entree and dessert. Kind of more than you might want under normal conditions, but just plan on saving some for the next day's lunch and you're fine. The food itself may not be the greatest in the universe but it is also better than it really needs to be, given the university crowd and swanky atmosphere.

Absolutely wonderful brunch! $10.95 for students, all you can eat fancy food: waffles, fresh roasted meats, several pastas, miniburgers, fruit salad, tiny sammiches, and lots of other tasty delicacies like mussels. Good bloodys too.

Traditional English fare including Scotch eggs, bangers and mash, Cornish pasties, as well as salads, burgers and vegetarian dishes. Upper-level patio with outdoor dining and grass lawn for lawn bowling.
Perhaps the most creative menu you'll encounter at a bowling alley. The postage stamp-size kitchen cranks out an appealing range of snacks and full meals: grilled bison over field greens with a buttermilk-blue cheese dressing, a fantastic potato salad, salmon with tarragon pesto and basmati rice, a spicy pad Thai, an artisanal cheese plate with locally raised smoked trout, one of the city's best burgers (made with grass-fed Minnesota beef) and a justifiably popular carrot cake. Breakfast (scrambles, biscuits and gravy, omelets) is hugely popular, particularly on weekends. The beer and ale list is exceptional, as is the affordable, adventurous (particularly for a bowling alley) wine list.
Landon Schoenefeld has put his sweat-equity education to very good use at his new gig. As chef at the new-ish Bulldog N.E., he uses Grade A ingredients, strong technique, creative thinking -- and applies them to traditional neighborhood pub genre. Although the results are far from fancy, Schoenefeld's next-generation bar food exudes obvious smarts and attention to detail. Oh, yeah -- it tastes good, too. That includes an exemplary burger (with variations), great fries, overscaled salads, brisket, chili, and a terrific chicken-and-waffles combo.
At this non-traditional pizzeria, all the traditional toppings are available, including sausage, pepperoni, hamburger, peppers, onions and the like, but Galactic's long list of options also includes morel and shiitake mushrooms, wild rice, buffalo sausage, and for vegan customers, mock duck, nondairy mozzarella, and a range of sauces including tomato, ranch, barbecue, Thai peanut and garlic and olive oil.
The pizzas are better-than-average, especially the Thailander, topped with marinated chicken, green onions, shredded carrots and crushed peanuts. Hemp is prominently featured in several menu items, including the signature Galactic pizza, the hemp Caesar salad, the rasta pasta (penne noodles with broccoli, tomatoes and Parmesan) and chocolate-hemp brownies from the nearby French Meadow Bakery.
Many local restaurants support worthy causes, and a few make special efforts to support local farmers and
encourage sustainable agriculture, but Galactic Pizza takes social responsibility in the restaurant business to a whole other level. All of the energy used by the pizzeria is produced sustainably, and (weather permitting) deliveries are made using emission-free battery-powered Gizmo three wheelers, by delivery drivers outfitted in snappy jumpsuits with
matching capes. A dollar from every Second Harvest pizza (tomatoes, mozzarella, garlic and organic basil) sold is donated to that worthy organization's hunger relief efforts, while their CSA pizza comes topped with seasonal produce from a community supported agriculture farm share. Organic ingredients are used whenever possible.
