Pomegranite Martini- worth it posted by millicentme on Jul. 2, '09 at 9:07 AM
I was here about a month ago and tried the pomegranite martini. I was never big on the "classic" martini but this was delicious and definitely worth the $9 (?) that it was. I had two- I could have stopped at one.
I should add- the service left something to be desired. My friends and I sat at a table and had to wait a long LONG time to get our drinks. After feeling the wicked buzz of the second martini I asked for a water.... I never got the water.
Maybe it would have been different if I had sat at the bar.

For the reason of free drinks and a free t-shirt the onion is worth visiting on tuesday night. The crowd also seems to be pretty ample, yet not over-crowded for a tuesday night so I guess if your wanting to go out on a tuesday and be around people this would be the place for you. Other than that the times i've been there on the weekends its too ridiculously crowded to even move past the door so don't even bother. Haven't tried the food but from what I saw when I was there it has typical bar food, nachos, fries, etc.

But that's not necessarily a good thing. This is a good location if you wanna get your dance on in St. Paul... but other then that..if you don't wear Abercrombie and Fitch daily, this may not be the place for you. Don't forget that on the weekend it is disgustingly over packed and your gonna wait forever to get your drink - only for the drink to then be spilled on you whilst dancing

This place is a good choice for your birthday if it falls on a night where there aren't other crazy specials going on. You get free drinks (choose one and they fill you up till a certain hour) in a colossal mug, specials on food for your party, and other freebies...a t-shirt, perhaps? I'm not sure. They have your typical DJ, which is fun enough if you're kinda drunk. If it weren't someone's birthday, I wouldn't go there by choice.

The Onion does indeed have great onion rings, but don't visit this bar on a Tuesday or a weekend night. Sure, birthday Tuesdays may be a good place to get your ass grabbed, but let's face it--most girls do not thrive off of that type of attention.
Perhaps the most creative menu you'll encounter at a bowling alley. The postage stamp-size kitchen cranks out an appealing range of snacks and full meals: grilled bison over field greens with a buttermilk-blue cheese dressing, a fantastic potato salad, salmon with tarragon pesto and basmati rice, a spicy pad Thai, an artisanal cheese plate with locally raised smoked trout, one of the city's best burgers (made with grass-fed Minnesota beef) and a justifiably popular carrot cake. Breakfast (scrambles, biscuits and gravy, omelets) is hugely popular, particularly on weekends. The beer and ale list is exceptional, as is the affordable, adventurous (particularly for a bowling alley) wine list.
At this laid-back coffeehouse, expect to find an ambitious live-music schedule (performed in an adjacent music room), a nicely retro setting and inexpensive fare that effortlessly swings from breakfast (burritos, oatmeal, waffles) to dinner (black-bean burger, smoked trout salad, aoili/three-cheese grilled sandwich). Beyond coffee, there's an impressive beer selection (including 24 tap choices, from Bell's Oberon Ale to Frostop root beer) and more than a dozen affordable wines by the glass.
The lively bar, popular with Uptown twentysomethings, pours more than 40 tequilas and shakes up two dozen margaritas. The menu focuses on contemporary Tex-Mex fare: corn-crusted oysters, picadillo empanadas, burritos, enchiladas, barbecue pork sandwich and a showy tableside guacamole.
Barbette focuses its considerable creative energies on incorporating local, seasonal, and organic ingredients into uncomplicated, classically satisfying bistro fare, served in quirky, vintage-store surroundings. The menu changes weekly. Recommended dishes: Amish chicken, pork tenderloin, Nicoise salad, steamed mussels, beet salad, croque monsieur, daily tartare, sweet and savory crepes, chocolate fondue. The late-night menu ranks as one of the best in town.
Wine list: Extraordinary collection of affordable, unusual labels.
The schnitzel and sauerbraten are good year-round at this friendly, unpretentious German restaurant, and on a sunny summer day there's no more blissful place to quaff down a stein of Hacker-Pschorr or carve up a bratwurst than the lovely patio at the Black Forest Inn. Sculptures and a fountain adorn the partially shaded dining area, and there is even a retractable canvas roof in case of an unforeseen downpour. All the German classics are available, from Wiener schnitzel and sauerbraten to the best apfelstrudel in town. If you are looking for lighter fare, the choices range from a seafood salad and a vegetarian lentil spaetzel to a grilled salmon kebab and an Alsatian sauerkraut casserole.
A small chain that feels like an indie. Chef Chris Hammer makes his somewhat boilerplate steaks-and-chops menu stand out by spending that corporate budget on well-regarded ingredients. Appetizers included an earthy grilled portobello over a nutty wild rice cake, nicely lumpy crab cakes, a plate of paper-thin raw beef shavings with lemon and chive accents and an exceptionally pretty chop salad. Straightforward steaks, chops and seafood aren't afraid to go into the upper $30s. Lunch includes a bevy of pleasantly prepared sandwiches ($9 to $16) and salads ($10 to $14), joined by two nods to Minnesota’s culinary heritage: a thick, savory wild rice soup and an amusing pass on hot dish, a robust beef-mushroom concoction crowned with an oversize, cheese-filled tater tot.
